Louisville Clinic Series

Hosted by Louisville Magic FHC

Oldham County Family YMCA

April 12 & 13, 2025

*REGISTRATION CLOSES 3/24

  • Saturday, April 12 | 8-11am

This clinic is designed for new goalies or any goalie who has not had formal goalkeeper training from a professional goalkeeping specialist.

    Open to ages 6-15.

This event covers equipment tutorials, how to do a proper GK-specific physical warm-up, and the fundamental skills of goalkeeping. (body position, angles, saves with feet and hands, decision making, and if we have time - diving).

The importance of this content cannot be overemphasized - this is MUST KNOW material for any goalie at all stages of development.

  • *This event spans two days

    Saturday, April 12 | 2-6pm

    Sunday, April 13 | 9am-1pm

    Open to ages 12-19

    Mental, technical, tactical, physical.

This two-part clinic will open with a lesson in mental skills; application of these skills will be reinforced throughout the event. The on-field content on day one reinforces fundamental skills and challenges application of linked skills to dynamic game-play simulations. Drills on the second day will progress into situational drills that highlight patterns in play development, leading to higher rates of successful decision making. This session will end with an introduction to goalkeeper specific fitness.

Beginners welcome, but be prepared for an intense training environment.

  • Sunday, April 13 | 3-6pm

    Open to ages 12-19

This clinic takes all of the content from Super Clinic and applies it live with field players. In addition to testing decision making and execution of skills under pressure, this segment includes instruction of communicating with and tactics of organizing defenders. Training includes situations in tight space around the face of the goal, numbers-down circle play, attacks with defenders recovering over a distance, and much more.

This clinic is an essential add-on to Super Clinic content.

This session is NOT recommended for beginners. (But if you want to attend to observe, we could arrange that!)

Refining the Goalkeeper’s Job

THE FIVE ELEMENTS

The Proving Grounds

April 19, 2025

  • A goalkeeper’s job description can be distilled down to five primary components:

    1. Be balanced and set

    2. Move efficiently and with purpose from place to place

    3. Get hit with the ball – either by being in the right place at the right time or by putting a body part between the ball and the goal

    4. Re-engage with the play immediately after the first touch / recover as quickly as possible

    5. Direct the defense

This is where the science comes in – the physics and the human biomechanics. How do we maximize our body’s superhuman potential? How do we use physics to our advantage? This clinic is all about mastery of movements and skills, awareness and manipulation of space, and winning the mental game. Alongside core technical and tactical skills of goalkeeping, we are teaching the subtle adjustments that will transform your game.

Open to all GKs ages 11-19.

    3-7pm

Beyond Basics

Mastery of Critical Moment Saving Techniques

Hosted by SUNY GENESEO FIELD HOCKEY

SUNY Geneseo

April 27, 2025

  • This event has two sessions available - 9am-12pm or 2pm-5pm.

This clinic gives goalkeepers an opportunity to get a look at multiple shot presentations (forehand, chip, reverse chip, sweep, deflection, etc.) with the focus on making the most of their first touch, or—in the event of a less-than-ideal save—pouncing on the rebound with a decisive counter attack. Time will also be dedicated to refining techniques for handling off-speed or bouncing balls as saves or to break up a play. These concepts will be combined as the clinic progresses and the goalkeepers are challenged to link one saving-skill to the next without compromising quality for speed. These scenarios will also challenge decision making—whether to close space on the rebounding attacker or to hold and set; returning to turf will require an adjustment in each individual’s timing.

Open to all GKs ages 11-19.

Improbable Possible

Training to be Superhuman

Mary’s Training Center

May 24, 2025

  • This clinic will dig into the science of making saves. We will teach technical skills through a study in biomechanics and physics: how to optimize body movements to overcome the forces that make speedy, precise actions so difficult. This innovative curriculum will incorporate eye-tracking training, balance and stability challenges, and cognitive processing optimization training into fundamental goalkeeper skills drills. In addition to refining your technical skills, this clinic will equip you to design your own goalkeeper-specific speed, agility, and explosiveness exercises in your training sessions at home. In other words, you're going to master your brain and enhance your body to make more improbable saves.

Open to all GKs ages 12-19.

    9am-1pm

Mid-West Mini Camp

Hosted by AIM Field Hockey

Principia School

June 13-15, 2025

*date changed - originally 6/6-6/8

  • An abbreviated version of Ultimate Defender Camp to bring goalkeeper-specific training to the geographic heart of the U.S. This event features five on-field technical/tactical training sessions, two mental performance skill sessions, an introduction to off-field training practices, and a seminar on goalkeeper communication and defensive strategy.

On the field, we will train fundamental skills, linking skills, application to specific scenarios, and decision making. We will be joined by a group of field players on the last day to coach the goalies through live game scenarios. The mental performance skills segments will present tools for thriving in their high-pressure role. Off-field practices will include training strategies for improving ocular acuity, reaction training, and exercises for mental performance skill application. Our signature communication presentation will teach the “what, how, when, where, and why” of goalkeeper communication.
